Carl Hugh Suttle

Savannah – Carl Hugh Suttle, died June 4 under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice, Savannah.
He was born October 10, 1917 in Asheville, North Carolina. At Biltmore High School he was called the “spark plug” of the football team which later earned him a football scholarship at Hobart College, Geneva, New York. He was a crucifer at Old Soul’s Episcopal Church in Biltmore, NC.
He co-owned and enjoyed piloting his own airplane in the early 1940s, and was an Air Traffic Controller from 1942 to 1981. He was an excellent golfer who played all his life, among his favorite rounds were: Augusta National Golf Club, The Greenbrier and The Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. He was a member of the Landings Club and was also the Starter there for 22 years. He was a member of the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Suttle, his son Ron Suttle, daughter-in-law Carol Suttle, granddaughter Suzy Willis (Andy Willis), grandson Doug Suttle. Also survived by son Charles Suttle, daughter-in-law Becky Keating and step granddaughter Julia Keating. He is predeceased by his first wife Irene Hensley Suttle. Other survivors include step daughter Julie Pickart (John Pickart) and their sons James Pickart and Gabriel Pickart, and step daughter Susan Beddingfield (Ed Beddingfield) and their daughters Scout Beddingfield and Paris Beddingfield.
The Memorial Service will be at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church Tuesday, June 13 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests any remembrances be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 201 Television Circle, Savannah, GA 31406 or the organization of your choice.
